Wearing & Fit

The ribbon on your mask should loop twice around your head. I find this method of fastening offers superior mask placement and comfort. Simply loosen the first loop till it fits over your head. Tighten the mask by pulling on the hanging ribbon. Then tie the excess in the back.

If your mask does not fit, or is uncomfortable to wear, please e-mail me. Though I wear glasses, I do not make masks to wear over glasses. I find it uncomfortable. Depending on the size of your eyewear, there are some designs that work well with glasses. I am also available to make plaster face casts if you are in the Greater Seattle Area.

Materials

My masks are created using high-quality vegetable tanned leather. They are then dyed or painted with acrylics. All masks are polished and coated with a water resistant finish. Some styles, such as the Dragonfly are available in a variety of colors. Please e-mail me your preference. Ties are made from ribbon and are available in black or artist discretion. If you wish to change out the ribbon, use 1 ½ yds of 5/8” satin ribbon.

Care & Cleaning

You can wipe of your mask with a damp cloth or buff it with a soft dry rag to remove dust. If you have a dyed mask, you can polish it with a neutral shoe polish to restore shine. Though masks are sealed with a water repellant, they are not water proof and should be kept dry. Excess moisture may cause discoloration. Should your mask lose its shape due to moisture, gently reshape it and allow it to dry overnight on a convex surface.

Keep masks out of direct sunlight as they may fade.

When not in use, masks can be hung on the wall, stored (hat boxes are ideal) or placed on a face form. When stored, tissue or cloth should be used to support the contours of the mask. When hung, care should be taken so that the mask doesn’t warp over time. I tend to display the masks by pounding two large nails into the wall and letting the eyeholes support the weight. This allows for easy removal from the wall and allows me to change my displays quickly and often. I have also had luck with taking thin wire, threading it through the eyeholes and attaching both the wire and the ribbon to a hook in the wall. Just make sure the mask is balanced and that the weight is supported in more than one spot.
